เมื่อวันที่ 23 ม.ค. เวลา 22.20 น. แหล่งข่าวระดับสูงในพรรคประชาธิปัตย์ เปิดเผยว่า ทางผู้บริหารของพรรคประชาธิปัตย์ได้รับการประสานงานจากกระทรวงการต่างประเทศว่าทางสถานกงสุลใหญ่ เขตบริหารพิเศษฮ่องกงแห่งสาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีน ได้รายงานมาว่า นายสาคร เกี่ยวข้อง ส.ส.กระบี่ พรรคประชาธิปัตย์ ได้ถูกเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจฮ่องกงควบคุมตัวไว้ตั้งแต่ช่วงเย็นของวันที่ 22 ม.ค. โดยเตรียมส่งฟ้องศาลในความผิดฐานลักทรัพย์ในเช้าวันที่ 24 ม.ค. ขณะนี้ทางเจ้าหน้าที่สถานกงสุลใหญ่กำลังประสานงานเรื่องขั้นตอนทางคดีอยู่

อย่างไรก็ตาม ผู้สื่อข่าวได้โทรศัพท์เข้ามือถือของนายสาคร เพื่อสอบถามข้อเท็จจริง ปรากฏว่ามีเสียงตอบรับระบุเพียงว่า กำลังติดต่อกันอยู่ จากนั้นได้บ่ายเบี่ยงที่จะตอบคำถามและรีบตัดสายไปในที่สุด ทั้งนี้ เบื้องต้นทราบว่า นายสาครได้ร่วมคณะดูงานไปกับคณะกรรมาธิการในสภาผู้แทนราษฎรคณะหนึ่ง ปัจจุบันนายสาครมีอายุ 49 ปี เดิมประกอบธุรกิจท่องเที่ยวในภาคใต้ และยังเคยเป็นเจ้าของรีสอร์ทดังบนเกาะลันตา จ.กระบี่ รวมถึงธุรกิจค้าขายรถยนต์และจากบัญชีทรัพย์สินที่แสดงต่อป.ป.ช.ตอนรับตำแหน่งส.ส.เมื่อปี 2551 ระบุว่านายสาคร
มีทรัพย์สินรวม 871.6 ล้านบาท ส่วนใหญ่เป็นที่ดินกว่า 400 ไร่ ก่อนหน้านี้ไม่นาน นายสาคร ยังออกมาให้สัมภาษณ์คัดค้านเกี่ยวกับการปิดจุดดำน้ำสำคัญที่ได้ผลกระทบจากปะการังขาวอีกด้วย
