จังหวัดกระบี่ ร่วมกับ องค์การบริหารส่วนจังหวัดกระบี่, สมาคมธุรกิจการท่องเที่ยวจังหวัดกระบี่, ททท. สำนักงานกระบี่ และชมรมปีนหน้าผาไร่เล กำหนดจัดงาน Krabi International Rock Climbing 2009 ระหว่างวันที่ 17 19 เมษายน 2552 ณ หาดต้นไทร หาดไร่เล และเกาะปอดะ โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเผยแพร่และประชาสัมพันธ์กิจกรรมการปีนผาของจังหวัดกระบี่ และส่งเสริมให้กิจกรรมการแข่งขันปีนหน้าผาเป็นหนึ่งในกิจกรรมทางการท่องเที่ยวประจำปีของจังหวัดกระบี่ รวมทั้งนำเสนอภาพลักษณ์จังหวัดกระบี่ เป็น Rock Climbing Destination ซึ่งเป็นที่รู้จักกันในหมู่นักปีนหน้าผาว่าหากนึกถึงการปีนผาต้องไปปีนที่จังหวัดกระบี่ เนื่องจากมีหน้าผาที่สวยงามติดอันดับโลก มีธรรมชาติที่สวยงามและมีสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกทางการท่องเที่ยวครบครัน มีเส้นทางปีนผากว่า 600 เส้นทาง นักปีนผาสามารถเลือกปีนได้ตามระดับความยากง่ายและความท้าทายที่ต้องการ นอกจากนี้ยังมีลักษณะเด่นคือเมื่อปีนขึ้นไปบนยอดเขา สามารถมองเห็นทัศนยีภาพอันสวยงามของจังหวัดกระบี่ เช่น ภูเขาหินปูนรูปร่างแปลกตาคล้ายรองเท้าบู๊ท เรือสำเภา หัวนก รวมทั้งมองเห็นหมู่เกาะต่างๆ เช่น เกาะปอดะ เกาะทับ เกาะไก่ ฯลฯ โดยได้แบ่งการแข่งขันออกเป็น 2 ประเภทคือ
Lead Climbing Marathon
Deep Water Soloing

Krabi Province, in cooperation with Krabi Provincial Administration Organization, Krabi Tourist Association, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Krabi Office and Railay Rock Climbing Club, joins hands in organizing Krabi International Rock Climbing 2009, to project Krabi as a Rock Climbing Destination.
Krabi Province in cooperation with Krabi Provincial Administration Organization, Krabi Tourist Association, TAT Krabi Office and Railay Rock Climbing Club, is going to co-organise Krabi International Rock Climbing 2009 from 17-19 April 2009 at Tonsai Beach, Railay Beach and Poda Island. This event aims to publicize rock climbing activity in Krabi Province and to push rock climbing activity as annual tourism promotional event of the province. In addition, the image of Krabi will be projected as Rock Climbing Destination, as it is renowned among the rock climbers that Krabi is a not-to-be-missed destination with its world renowned cliffs, beautiful nature and fully equipped facilities.
Krabi has world-class rock climbing sites, with more than 600 rock climbing routes. The rock climbers are able to select their own levels and challenges. Another outstanding point is that beautiful scenery of Krabi Province can be viewed from the top of the cliffs, such as limestone mountains shaped like boot, junk ship and birds head, as well as some islands like Koh Poda, Koh Tab, Koh Kai, etc. The competition is divided into two categories, which are;
◉ Lead Climbing Marathon
◉ Deep Water Soloing
Apart from rock climbing activity, there are competitions on Thailand Bouldering Asia Cup and Fire Contest. It is expected that Krabi International Rock Climbing will make the province known nationally and internationally and will stimulate tourism in the province to a certain level.
